Feng Shui is more than aesthetics; it’s about understanding the universal energies represented by the Five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each element symbolizes a unique force that influences our lives and surroundings, and mastering these energies is essential for creating a harmonious environment.

Why the Five Elements Matter:

  1. Universal Energies: Each element embodies deeper meanings—growth, transformation, balance, creativity, and nourishment. Recognizing these energies allows you to understand how they affect your life.

  2. Dynamic Interplay: The elements interact in a cycle—Wood fuels Fire, Fire creates Earth, and so on. Balancing these energies is crucial for harmony in your space.

  3. Environmental Influence: Strategically incorporating elements like plants (Wood) or water features (Water) can enhance your mood and well-being.

  4. Balancing Act: Too much of one element can lead to chaos; too little can cause stagnation. Knowing how to balance these energies promotes stability and clarity.

  5. Empowerment: Understanding the Five Elements empowers you to create spaces that reflect your aspirations, fostering an atmosphere of support and growth.

Understanding Feng Shui

Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese practice, is all about the flow of energy (or "qi") within a space. When your environment is harmonized, it can positively affect your mood, relationships, and overall well-being. Here are some basic principles to get you started on your journey to empowerment through Feng Shui.

1. Assess Your Space

Begin by taking a mindful look at your living or working space. Ask yourself:

  • How does this space make me feel?

  • Are there areas that feel cluttered or stagnant?

  • Do the colours and décor reflect who I am and my aspirations?

Identifying areas that need attention will help you understand where to focus your efforts.

2. Declutter for Clarity

Although I may talk about decluttering frequently, it is truly crucial! Clutter can be a major barrier to feeling empowered, creating chaos and overwhelm. Declutter your space by removing items that no longer serve you or align with your goals to create an inspiring environment.

3. Utilize the Bagua Map

In case you haven't done so yet, feel free to download the Bagua from my complimentary 'Feng Shui Roadmap' PDF available on my website (www.amefree.com). The Bagua map serves as a potent instrument in Feng Shui for assessing your space based on various life domains like health, wealth, and relationships. By superimposing the Bagua map onto your floor plan, you can pinpoint the areas that align with particular facets of your life. Concentrate on improving those sections by incorporating elements that align with your goals.

4. Choose Empowering Colours and Elements

Colours play a crucial role in Feng Shui. So empowering women need empowering colours. Choose hues that evoke the feelings you want to cultivate. For example:

  • Blue: Calming and introspective, great for promoting tranquillity.

  • Green: Symbolizes growth and renewal, ideal for personal development.

  • Red: Represents energy and passion, perfect for boosting motivation.

Incorporate natural elements, like plants or water features, to enhance the energy flow and bring life into your space.

5. Set Intentions with Personal Touches

Infuse your space with personal items that reflect your goals and aspirations. This could be artwork that inspires you, photographs of loved ones, or objects that represent your dreams. Each piece should remind you of your journey and the direction you want to take.

6. Create Functional Spaces

Ensure that your spaces are functional and cater to your needs. Designate areas for work, relaxation, and creativity, and arrange furniture to promote flow and interaction. An inviting workspace can enhance productivity, while a serene bedroom promotes restful sleep and rejuvenation.

7. Practice Conscious Consumption

As you curate your space, adopt a mindset of conscious consumption. Consider the impact of your purchases on both your environment and your well-being. Opt for sustainable, high-quality items that resonate with your values and contribute positively to your space.

8. The Power of Affirmations

One powerful way to amplify the effects of Feng Shui is through positive affirmations. Write affirmations that align with the specific areas of the Bagua map. For instance, in the Southeast corner of your home, which relates to wealth and prosperity, you might place affirmations such as, "I am abundant," "Cash flows easily to me," or "Opportunities for growth surround me." Placing these affirmations in their corresponding areas not only reinforces your intentions but also invites positive energy into your life.

Empowering women worldwide

By implementing these Feng Shui basics, you can create an environment that supports your personal growth and empowers you to navigate the demands of modern life, not matter your location or stage of life.

Your space is not just a backdrop; it’s a powerful tool that can guide you toward clarity, direction, and well-being.

As you embark on this journey, remember that Feng Shui is a personal practice. Tailor it to your unique needs and aspirations, and watch as your environment transforms into a sanctuary of empowerment.

The journey starts here

Being a practitioner of Feng Shui, decluttering is seen as a crucial practice in incorporating its principles into your sacred space, setting the stage for a positive environment to flourish.

Did you know?

  • Clutter has the ability to drain energy and hinder personal growth, casting shadows on stress, focus, health, and relationships.

  • Specific types of clutter can impact different aspects of life, for example:

    • Clutter in the kitchen diminishes the essence of nourishment

    • Clutter in the bedroom disrupts the tranquillity of sleep

    • Clutter in the closet is linked to weight gain

    • Clutter in the living room can create disturbances in relationships

Embarking on the journey of decluttering

Embarking on the journey of decluttering often stirs emotions, calling for resilience, but it ultimately leads to clarity, revitalized energy, and a renewed sense of self-respect.

Here are my Top Tips to declutter effectively:

  1. Like everything else on your to-do list, "tidy the house" will only get done if you SCHEDULE SOME TIME for it.

  2. Open all windows and aerate the space well to bring fresh vibrant energy and/or diffuse any of the uplifting citrus oils, my favourite is Citrus Fresh by Young Living, you not only want your space to look and feel clean, but you also want it to smell clean too!

  3. Get dressed in clothing that is practical, made of natural fibers and makes you feel good!

  4. NEVER CLUTTER CLEAR WHEN YOU ARE ANGRY. Strong emotions get in the way of thinking clearly. To clear clutter you need an objective eye. A drop of Young Living's Valor essential oil on the wrists is a great way to start.

  5. Feng Shui principles suggest bringing in some fire element colours (purple, reds, oranges) for an additional boost of energy for yourself and for the space you are working on, so set your diffuser colour to red or orange.

  6. Put on music you love and START SMALL, FOCUSING ON ONE AREA AT A TIME to give you a sense of accomplishment.

  7. Have bags/boxes to hold items for recycling, donations, giveaways, resale/consignment and garbage.

  8. Go room-by-room. Start with the easiest and perhaps smallest room. Once you’ve picked a room (or even picked which draw or cupboard!), stick with it and complete it before moving onto the next. Remember that Rome was not built in a day so the clutter does not all have to be cleared at once but when you start you will not be able to stop because it feels so good!!

  9. Take everything out first. As you handle each item, repeat the organizer's mantra:

"Do I want it?", "Do I need it?", "When did I last use/wear it?", and my all-time personal favourite: "What was I thinking?".

10. Affirm to yourself: "It is safe to let go." Decluttering involves releasing and having faith in life's process to provide what you require, rather than holding onto things out of fear of forgetting memories or for "just in case" scenarios. Using a few drops of Abundance and/or Release oils can be beneficial in this process.

11. Complete the task before you lose interest and reward yourself with a treat, whether it's a nice cup of tea or a movie night with a friend. Personally, I love receiving 'after photos' from clients showcasing their decluttering progress. Their sense of accomplishment, relief, and newfound lightness is truly gratifying, especially when shared with others.
